Orthopedics

Our orthopedic providers focus on quality, personalized care to help each patient achieve the best possible outcome. Whether a patient is experiencing pain from degenerative joint disease or from a ligament torn on the tennis court, our surgeons work to return patients as soon as possible to the activities they enjoy.

Our providers know what a difference orthopedic surgery can make to a patient experiencing pain or lost function due to musculoskeletal injuries. They routinely perform joint replacements for hips, shoulders, and knees as well as treatment for activity-related injuries.

Many procedures are done with an arthroscope, a thin fiberoptic scope that the surgeon introduces into the joint area through a small incision. These minimally invasive procedures with small incisions decrease the amount of pain patients experience following surgery, minimize the risk of infection, and frequently allow patients to go home the same day.

Patients with concerns ranging from age-related wear and tear to sports-related injuries can rest assured they’re in the best hands at PacMed.

Surgical services include:

  • arthroscopic subacromial decompression
  • arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
  • arthroscopic superior labrum from anterior to posterior (SLAP) repair
  • arthroscopic distal clavicle resection
  • total shoulder arthroplasty
  • arthroscopic tennis elbow debridement
  • ulnar nerve transposition
  • ACL reconstruction
  • arthroscopic meniscus debridement/repair

Neuropsychology

The brain weighs only about three pounds, but it is the most important organ in the body when it comes to behavior, personality, thinking, learning and remembering. Neuropsychology is an interdisciplinary branch of psychology and neuroscience that aims to understand how the brain relates to behavior.

At Pacific Medical Centers, our neuropsychology staff provides evaluation and consultation for a range of problems and conditions that involve the brain and affect behavior. Our neuropsychologist has not only general clinical skills and knowledge of the broad range of mental health problems, but also expert knowledge and skills in neuropsychological testing and assessment.

Neuropsychological assessment can be a lengthy process that involves one-on-one testing with a provider or technician and allows for the evaluation of multiple domains of functioning, including memory, language function, visual-spatial skills, problem-solving/executive-functioning skills and general intellectual skills.

At Pacific Medical Centers, our neuropsychologist provides general neuropsychological services with special focus on:

  • Assessment of dementia and age-related cognitive decline through neuropsychological testing and evaluation.
  • Traumatic brain injury. A neuropsychological evaluation applies objective psychological tests and other procedures to assess the array of functional strengths and weaknesses for diagnostic purposes and treatment planning.
  • Multiple sclerosis. Many people with multiple sclerosis develop neuropsychological problems that can be assessed at Pacific Medical Centers.
  • Developmental disabilities. Our neuropsychologist applies neuropsychological assessment and consultation for a range of learning and developmental disabilities, including autism, Asperger syndrome and developmental delays.
  • In some cases, consultations and evaluation for Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in teenagers and adults.

Neurology

Promoting Brain and Nervous System Health

Neurology is a specialty that focuses on diseases and disorders of the brain and nervous system. A neurologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of problems involving the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Neurologists complete four years of medical school and then complete a one-year internship and then a three-year residency in the specialty.

Neurological disorders strike an estimated 50 million Americans each year. These conditions can affect movement, speech, memory, senses, swallowing, breathing, and many other functions of the body. Some conditions that may require treatment by a neurologist include Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, migraine, sleep disorders, seizure disorders, problems with muscle control or movement, traumatic brain injury and stroke.

Neurologists use special tests like brain scans or sound waves to look at brain activity or blood flow. They might measure electrical activity in the brain, muscles, or nerves. These exams help the neurologist understand what might be wrong. Neurologists at Pacific Medical Center may consult with your primary care physician about your diagnosis and treatment. They may also refer you to a surgeon when appropriate.
